I feel that way often! Awesome use of your macro lens. :-) Keep them coming so I can enjoy them vicariously. Better yet, come over and take some pics of my snowflakes!
Julie, it's by controlling how much light comes into the lens through the aperture. Letting a lot of light in causes a very shallow depth of field. This allows me to put just one small thing in focus with the rest out of focus. Can't do it with a point and shoot very well.
